William Golding's startling and perennially best-selling portrait of human nature run amuck, told via the gripping tale of a group of young English schoolboys plane-wrecked on a deserted island, was first brought to the screen in director Peter Brook's (Marat/Sade) stunningly beautiful and highly disturbing film version from 1963. Lord of the Flies currently clocks in at number eight on the American Library Association's list of frequently banned and challenged classics.
