Tarja interview at Nelonen-TV, Finland 28.11.2008

Question How is Tarja Turunen doing today?
Tarja Very good. I'm really happy, I have a work-filled year behind me - even there is a little of it still left - but very good; I'm in a good mood pushing forward.

Q What have you been doing since leaving Nightwish?
T Well, I have done classical music, several concerts with different nice line-ups where I have met lot of new people. And I have also sung lot of rock, my own solo album has taken me on tours abroad, three legs in Europe and one in South America. Those were really amazing gigs so I'll be continuing in a happy mood working with a new album and composing songs.

Q Yes, for many Finns your incredible list of success abroad might be somewhat unfamiliar news; what stood out to me was that the song "Tired of Being Alone" for which you co-wrote the lyrics has been nominated by some kind of pre-jury for the Grammy awards. Can you tell us a little more about this?
T You say! It was the first song in which I wrote the melody, the first time I composed a melody and with my husband we pondered about the lyrics and now this song has been pre-nominated for the Grammy awards. It's indeed an insane thing that my first "baby" will start like whoooiih! - with such a great honour. Let's see what will happen with it, since there's still a long journey to go.

Q Apparently you have been doing very well after Nightwish but do you feel bitterness any more about the split?
T Nah, really, I have a new life as an artist now and today I feel much better on personal level as well.

Q Honestly, what really happened? Did you get the sack or did you leave the band or what...?
T Eeek!!! I got the sack, no less, that's how it went. (laughs) It's been three years already...

Q What about the songs for these Christmas concerts; have you picked them yourself or...?
T Yes, sure, and then also together with Markku Krohn, Marzi Nyman and Kalevi Kiviniemi. Now it'll be that I'm singign more in this concert and most of the songs are from my Christmas album, so in that sense the program is based on the CD but with some addition of great organ pieces and Cristmas music. I'm really enthusiatic waiting for tonight's concert and also the other one tomomorrow night in Tampere.

Q What kind of memories you have about Christmases and Christmas music?
T Sure music belongs to Christmas before anything but the atmosphere will be created by all the scents and the family, being close together with all my beloved people. At my family, the Turunens, Christmas has traditionally been a family celebration where we once a year will meet each others since we all are scattered around places with our lives. It has been diffult to find time for meeting the family, so now again we'll gather in Kitee for Christmas which is wonderful. We sing and play music together a lot, make food and enjoy being together

Q Will the soprano withhold herself from singing the others off the stage when you sing Chrismas carrols at home?
T Yeaah? (laughs) As we all belong to the loud family of Turunens we will sing, and we will sing a lot!

Q In the Finnish media Marcelo seems to have achieved a reputation of being the "big bad wolf" who keeps telling Tarja Turunen what to do. Is there any truth in those claims?
T Mmm...ha!? We are such soulmates with him so I think the man knows his whatnots just as well as I do know mine and what is the truth. We don't care about what is said by others [in the media] as long as we can sleep our nights and look ourselves in the mirror... or while looking behind us we notice that our shadows still follow us (laughs) which assures that everything in our life is well.
