Favorite book quotes? (Limit FIVE quotes per post)

becca85 14 years, 7 months ago at Sep 21 23:08 -
I saw one for favorite movie quotes I could not find one for favorite book quotes, so I decided to start this forum. If you know of an existing "favorite book quote" forum, please let me know and I will get rid of this one (if I can).

My faves include

โ€œNothing is as it seems. Black can appear white when the light is blinding. But white loses all luster at the faintest sign of darkness.โ€
The Last Vampire 5: Evil Thirst

This is my favorite quote of all time and I plaster it everywhere.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

My favorite poem from the Lord of the Rings series.

โ€œThe past can be a terrible weight bound to you by an unbreakable chain. You can drag it with you, forever looking over your shoulder at what holds you back. Or you can let it go and move forward. Itโ€™s your choice.โ€
Shards of a Broken Crown

โ€œEvery person you encounter, whom you interact with, is there to teach you something. Sometimes it may be years before you realize what each had to show you.โ€

"Shadowhunters, looking better in black than the widows of our enemies since 1234."

"This is pink. Men do not consume pink beverages. Be thee gone woman and bring me something brown, for brown is a manly colour!"

"Dragoniade Demons: Not extinct enough for Alec. He prefers his demons really, really extinct."

"You might want to lie down. I find that helps when the crushing sense of horrible realization sets in."

"Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt."

These are all quotes from the Mortal Instruments series. xD

From J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings: Return of the King - "There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."

And from A.C. Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Naval Treaty - "What a lovely thing a rose is! ...Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers."

"Logic may indeed be unshakeable, but it cannot withstand a man who is determined to live." - Franz Kafka, The Trial

All paraphrased from memory

"You ever stop to think there's a millionaire for just about everything?"
"My god, is that, that all you think about?"
"Well yeah sure, but, see, over there, like a glass door millionaire, and water fountain millionaire, or a light bulb millionaire..."- William Gaddis, "JR"

"If a man has his eyes bound, you can encourage him as much as you like to stare through the bandage, but he'll never see anything.โ€-Franz Kafka, "The Castle"

"I got my own two feet. I don't need no man's mahogany desk to prop me up"-William Faulkner, "The Sound and the Fury"
