And it's just as good, just as uplifting here--a band complete with choir, keyboards, guitars and theramins (artfully produced by ex-Captain Beefheart man Eric Drew Feldman) couldn't be anything but huge. Literally picking up where the last album left off (the last album ended on "Section 10", this begins with "Section 11"), the sound builds up, adding layers of Wagnerian strings, horns, and choir, without ever sounding crowded. Ten songs go by and attention never wavers--even though half the songs vault past the six minute mark. In fact, the band's ace card seems to be the fact that despite the numerous layers of sound, the listener is never overwhelmed nor bored--rather the interesting, uplifting melodies leave a grin on the face. This is never more obvious than on the bombastic 10-minute "When a Fool Becomes King" and relieved by the light instrumental closer. Listen to this, and be guaranteed a good mood--hail to the sky indeed. --Thom Allott
