These tracks were made soon after Baker had made an impact on the jazz world with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet and over the years these vocals have achieved cult status. Some tracks have sometimes suffered severe editing in various reissues where the instrumental work of Bill Perkins, Jimmy Giuffre and Joe Pass was substituted for the vocals. This release presents the original performances as they were intended to be heard. --Steve Voce
