Part of the concept behind applying music to this film will almost certainly have been to whip up a Korngoldian spirit of swashbuckling adventure. In the mock-ups that composer Randy Edelman would have made, it probably sounded like he'd got it. At the orchestral sessions it will have seemed settled. But then he added his own style, which is to overlay live instruments with synth samples (see "Kyle, The Wheat Boy"). The result almost always fits the picture; this time it didn't.
