A good movie

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 19 January 2017 10:25

A couple of weeks ago, I saw ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and many hoped that it would finally break the curse on video-game adaptations but, unfortunately, it turned out to be only midly entertaining. This time around, I decided to check the over high-profile video-game adaptation that was released in 2016. Well, eventually, I thought it was actually not bad at all, at least, it was more satisfying than 'Assassin’s Creed’. Indeed, it was visually really neat,  this world of Azeroth looked quite amazing and those orcs were especially just really awesome. Concerning the story, in my opinion, the intro was rather weak and it took the whole thing at least 15 mins to finally take off. Of course, you might argue that the people familiar with the game didn’t have a problem with this but, for someone like me who actually never played the damned thing, the whole thing was a mess. Fortunately, as soon as the conflict between the orcs and the Alliance was clearly stated, then, the story became much more interesting. Above all, the intern struggle within the orcs was pretty neat. On the other hand, except for Ben Foster, most of the human characters were in fact rather bland and boring. Still, all in all, I thought it was a decent fantasy feature and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Darkness and Light

Posted : 7 years, 9 months ago on 11 July 2016 03:16

The races collide in the world of Warcraft as they do in ours, and in the fantasy world we are allowed to re-imagine the origin of conflict.

We are taught to see both races in a sympathetic light; an Orc baby reminds us that the Orcs are not just beasts, and a (wounded) human youth reminds us that members of the Alliance are not always powerful.

The Orcs at first believe that because their own world was dying they had no choice but to invade the human world, and the humans also believe that their troubles are not their responsibility, but both sides learn that it is one of their own race who causes their sorrows, and not the other nation.

The main form of dialogue between the races comes in the form of a female Orc who falls prisoner to the humans, and the movie's main comment on the strife of the races is discovered by a human Mage who finds that it is written, not that light fights with darkness, but that "from light comes darkness, and from darkness, light".

Warcraft review

Posted : 7 years, 10 months ago on 11 June 2016 06:34

I have been wanting to watch this since I heard it was coming. The game was fun when I had the money to play it all the time. I also think the cast here is full of great ones. Duncan Jones is the son of David Bowie as well as a somewhat known director. I have only seen one other film (Source Code) from him though so far. I really liked it so I have some hope for this. Charles Leavitt is known for writing Blood Diamond, Seventh Son, and In The Heart of the Sea. All of which I was entertained by. Chris Metzen has no other film credits as is probably only noted for his characters and such. I don't think I should find orcs attractive. I figured that's what was going on with her. This is feeling like one long cinematic for like a new Warcraft game or expansion pack lol. Wow that took a turn that I didn't see coming. That's a nice prologue for what is to come. Hey there is my girl Ruth Negga already! Ah there are some things here that I recognize from the game even though I haven't played in many a year. All I see right now when I look at Travis Fimmel and hear him is Ragnar from Vikings. Dang does everyone have trust issues or what? This has me hooked for sure. They added the Wilhelm scream lol. Yeah these battles have to be intense even if on a PG-13 level. What's up with green girls being so attractive I mean Zoe Saldana (among others) and now Paula Patton. For someone who is treated like dirt by her own people she is very hostile towards the ones who want to help. Oh nice there are some Night Elves! Garona kind of reminds me of a female Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Well that wasn't very nice. That is just pure evil right there! There are some pretty neat kills here. Haha I remember doing that in WoW sometimes. Aww that's not fair. Good lord some of these kills would be even more gruesome had this been rated R. The ending was pretty great. That baby orc is just so adorable. It leaves an opening for more films to come. I actually loved this. It has a lot going on, but I feel like they worked with everything well. If you think this is slow or boring we may not have watched the same movie. It kept my attention the whole time. The acting was great. All the characters were interesting. The action scenes were intense and brutal. I honestly hope they do make this into a series. I want to see more from these characters especially Anduin and Garona. Anyways if you like the Warcraft universe I definitely recommend this. If not I still recommend it because it's pretty fun.
