Transsiberian review

Posted : 11 years ago on 30 March 2013 08:05

An adventurous story of an American couple who opted to go with Trans-Siberian train on the way back home running between Beijing & Moscow. Apart from the terrain and the adventure the route is tarred with drug trafficking smugglers. The couple unfortunately caught between them when another couple come to share their room, what happened next is the cat and mouse game.

Tran Siberian follows and young American couple Roy (Woody Harrelson) Jessie (Emily Mortimer) that are traveling on the Trans Siberian railway from China to Moscow. The first part of the movie introduces you to Roy and Jessie, and the other people on the train. Some of these people are memorable, especially the mean Russian maid. Early in the journey they meet their new bunkmates Carlos and Abby, another young couple (there are 4 bunks in each compartment on the train and passengers can be paired up with total strangers). The two couples become friendly and socialize on the train. The seemingly uneventful trip takes a quick detour after they get off the train at one of the stops in Russia. Until this point the movie is slow and uneventful but it does a good job at building the plot and character development. After this however the movie suddenly picks up pace and you are glued to your screen for the remainder of the film. The movie takes several twists and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

Transsiberian review

A well directed thriller set primarily on the Trans-Siberian train line in Russia. An American couple get caught up with a drug trafficker working for the Uzbek mafia, his girlfriend and a corrupt cop. The wife is the most interesting character, complex and frustrating at times. Ben Kingsley does a great turn as the corrupt Russian cop. Good acting all round as well. The only thing that bugs me was the whole cliche of American tourists getting being victims of something shady in a foreign country, though thankfully it wasn't quite as straightforward as that.
