Comedy? Drama? Who knows -- but worth a watch

'The Scout' is a rather odd, yet not unappealing movie about a baseball scout named Al Percolo (played by Albert "Einstein" Brooks) and his relationship with "the greatest baseball player in the world" (Brendan Fraser) -- an awkward fellow with the not-very-handsome name of Steve Nebraska (and a not-very-handsome mullet to match). After Al's latest would-be star player (Michael Rapaport) suffers a ... read more

"Re-watch - Dec. 21st The Scout is by no means a great film, but it gets by on its charms. The scenes where Albert Brooks's character attends baseball games in Mexico are the best parts of the film, and both he and Fraser do their best with the material. There's a scene where an unnamed ball player tries to steal bases and collides with a food cart, and it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen so the film earns extra points for that. But there's a lot left unexplored or underdeveloped, whi"

"Pros: Kind of odd, yet fairly engaging; good performances by Albert Brooks, Brendan Fraser, and Dianne Wiest; Tony Bennett's random cameo; New York City setting. Cons: Slow beginning; the "Steve Nebraska" character occasionally irritates (as does his unfortunate mullet); Michael Rapaport (whom I normally don't mind) seems a bit miscast here. After Al's latest would-be star player (Michael Rapaport) suffers a humiliating and very public bout of stage fright at Yankee Stadium, Al is fired from the Major Leagues and for some reason sent to Mexico. There, Al encounters Steve Nebraska -- who might act like he has an IQ of about 6, but he sure can play baseball!

Al tries to find out more about Steve's past, but Steve "doesn't like to be asked questions." Nevertheless, Al guarantees St” read more
