The Ring review

Posted : 2 years, 2 months ago on 30 January 2022 11:26

Me pareció un misterio interesante cuando la vi hace tiempo, a diferencia de hoy con los fantasmas over power. Aunque bueno sí, películas de miedo, gente razonando poco y ningún tema realmente tratado.

An average movie

Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out but, to be honest, in my opinion, I think this movie is pretty damned overrated. I mean, I have to admit it, it was not bad at all, the directing was alright, Naomi Watts delivered a decent performance but compared to the Japanese version, it was actually rather weak. Furthermore, it is because this movie was so successful at the box-office that we got all those worthless remakes of Asian horror flicks... Anyway, this movie was actually a blessing for Naomi Watts because, back then, she just had her breakthrough performance in 'Mulholland Dr.' a year before and since this remake was a financial and critical success, her career definitely took off. Still, I'm always rather annoyed by viewers who says that this movie was 'totally awesome'. I mean, sure, it was not bad but compared to some Asian horror flicks, it is not really impressive, I'm afraid. The main issue in my opinion is that they spend way too much trying to explain and rationalize the weird things happening to the main characters which is a pointless and boring process. Still, for a US remake, it was a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

The Ring review

This movie haunted me for many years. I saw it when I was like thirteen, and it was the only movie that I've never been afraid of (except Mulholland Drive). So, I watched it again just the other day and guess what, I'm not afraid of it anymore! I suppose I'm officially immune to horror movies now (or I just haven't seen horror that is scary enough). But back to the movie: I think it was visually very beautiful movie, great psychological horror, without being scary.

Ok that wasn't said in the movie, but from the parody Scary Movie 3. I have owned the movie for a while and found it odd that I've never watched it. It looked mediocre, but it needed to be seen.

The beginning of the movie was decent and a crazy thing or 2 happens, which wasn't too bizarre but either way creepy. Naomi Watts is a fine actress and did well in this role as a mother/reporter for a newspaper.

The plot, although slow and boring to some, I enjoyed and it kept me glued to the t.v. Creepy things and facts here and there. A pretty well done job.
The ending was surprisingly different than what I was expecting. I love to think about "what could have happened? or what the heck was that all about?" I enjoy that.

Dislikes: The girl, you hear about A LOT, is not in it as much as you would want. More creepy things would have been nice.

Either way it was a great movie and I'm glad I watched it. I love thrillers that aren't gory or dwell on cursing, sex and trying to make you jump every 5 seconds.
