The Mistress of Spices Reviews

Tilo (A. Rai) opens a spice bazaar near San Francisco. She must follow 3 rules as a 'mistress of the spices': never use the spices for her own; never leave the spices; never touch another skin. She has a wide variety of clients who seek her help for various reasons, the most obvious being love, and she attends to them, as best she can. Unfortunately for her, one day she meets Doug (McDermott) and eventually falls in love, although she fights it. Will she leave her spices or will she find love with Doug?

This is definitely a girl movie, although guys might enjoy watching Aishwarya Rai: she is quite beautiful. She certainly can act too.
Dylan McDermott is really good-looking here, and gives a good performance.

The story is very predictable, hence my 6/10 rating. Else, everything was fine. A good script, nice photography, good direction.

I enjoyed the 'tips' on the various spices: cardamom, chili peppers, etc. A lot of fun.

If you like (predictable) romantic movies, this is for you.

Es una fabula mágica en la que la chica no conoce el amor y el chico quizás ha conocido demasiados. Un accidente de moto los unirá y el amor hace el resto.

En cuanto vi la breve sinopsis que estaba colocada en la taquilla del cine ya sabia como terminaba la película. A que vosotros también.

A mi mujer le ha encantado. He ganado un crédito para llevarla a ver una de acción.

Die Grundidee ist interessant, der Film ist es leider nicht. Wenn in der allzu vorhersehbaren Story die Hüterin der Gewürze auf die moderne amerikanische Gesellschaft trifft wird kaum ein Klischee ausgelassen. So trifft man während des Films auf den indischen Teenager mit Anschlussschwierigkeiten, einen indischen Taxifahrer und den amerikanischen Sonnyboy in den sich unsere Hüterin verliebt. Allesamt schön schablonenhaft gezeichnet und dargestellt. Ex-Schönheitskönigin Aishwarya Rai kann als Hauptdarstellerin kaum überzeugen und auch alle restlichen Darsteller können nicht begeistern. Fazit: Netter aber gescheiterter Versuch ein traditionelles Indisches Märchen mit einer amerikanischen Romantic Comedy zu verbinden.
