The greatest of these is love.

''Though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains and have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not love, it profiteth me nothing. Love suffereth and love is kind. Love envieth not. Love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a ... read more

Back in 1984, Roland Joffe accomplished the near impossible; his major motion picture debut, The Killing Fields, defied every expectation typically associated with neophyte filmmakers and what Joffe delivered was one of the most powerful and moving films I've ever seen. So it's no surprise I highly anticipated his follow-up film, The Mission, and it's obvious that by bringing back the same team (p... read more

Father Gabriel ascends the mountains of Brazil to bring christianity to the natives. He is successful and brings about a golden age among them. Mendoza, a slaver, kills his brother in a fit of rage, and only Fr. Gabriel's guidance prevents his suicide. Gabriel brings Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The church , under pressure, cedes the land to the Portuguese which will allow slavers in again. Mendoza breaks his vows and organizes the natives to resist while Gabriel warns him to help them as a priest.

my half assed 2018 movie diary (40 movies items)

" This film, for me, is exactly halfway between corny and emotionally moving. Robert De Niro plays an 18th century Spanish slave trader turned priest, and through him we're supposed to bear witness to a wondrous turn-around moral redemption and learn that the evil.....can really become good through the humbling and powerful nature of Catholicism. (Btw god bless the 0000.0001 children of god reading my inane rambling ✞) Yet at the close of the movie, we see a destructive, violent and coloni"
