The Longest Yard review

Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 21 August 2014 04:47

The longest time I've sat unhappy with a Sandler film. A completely lazy effort for a remake of a film that wasn't all that great in the first place. A movie filled with dumb humor and cliches.

One of Sandler's worst movies

Posted : 11 years, 2 months ago on 30 January 2013 04:03

Ok, now I think this is one of Sandler's worst movies. Not only was it very unfunny but it was also boring. Which really isn't a good mix. Truth be told, I didn't actually watch the whole movie I got about 50 minutes in, and then I had to switch it off, I knew it wasn't going to get any better, especially when it comes to things like this. Don't bother watching, even if you are a fan of Adam Sandler's work. I'd go for something like Big Daddy, Click or The Wedding singer, which in my opinion are his bearable movies.

I don't think Adam Sandler is as bad as everyone says he is, but I do think these films he keeps appearing in got way old years back. Think it's time for a change? Well, I think that's perhaps a little too late, as he's already a type-cast, therefore everything he touches is a flop. But, on this specific film, just avoid like the plague.

I think that saying was invented purely to describe films like these.

An average movie

Even though I had some rather low expectations since I never really enjoyed any movie starring Adam Sandler, I thought I could give it a try anyway. First of all, I have to admit that I have never seen the original version (I have seen 'Mean Machine' though) but I hope it is better than this flick. It's not that it was awful and/or annoying like so many other movies starring Sandler, it's just that it was rather boring and not really funny. The only really funny thing was that they expected us to believe that Adam Sandler could have been at some point a professional (American) football player... Even Chris Rock who can be quite hilarious didn't make me laugh at all. So, the whole thing was not really funny and rather tedious. Fortunately, exactly like in 'Mean Machine', the game at the end of the movie was quite uplifting and entertaining but it was not enough to make me forget the rest of the movie. Another redeeming feature was Courtney Cox and I must admit that she looked really stunning but she was there only during the first 10 minutes. Anyway, to conclude, I have seen worse movies starring Adam Sandler but it doesn't mean that this flick was really good and, eventually, I donโ€™t think it is really worth a look.

The Longest Yard review

I'm pretty much a sucker for any movie involving football and really liked this one. They stuck close enough to the original storyline to call it a remake, but it was very funny at the same time. Loved seeing the pro football players and wrestlers. I thought Sandler did a great job in this one. If you're looking for high art, don't bother, but if you want some good laughs and football scenes get out the popcorn and turn this one on.
