The Invitation review

I thought it was really great. It built up a huge tension within me and that was awesome because not a lot of movies can do that for me. I do want to know what happened to Claire but overall, the moral or the story is everyone should've listened to my man Will.

A good movie

To be honest, this movie was not really a high priority but since it was on Netflix and since it was suggested by one of my favorite listal members, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be a nice watch and I was above all surprised by how much it resembled 'Get Out', so far one of the biggest critical success released in 2017. Well, even though I did like 'Get Out', to be honest,  it didn't really blow me away though and, in fact, I thought that this movie was actually slightly better even if it was apparently barely seen when it was released. Indeed, I really enjoyed how ambiguous they managed to keep the whole thing and, as long as it remained so ambiguous, it was really quite captivating. Unfortunately, as soon as the truth was revealed, the whole thing went into auto-pilot and it became really generic. The fact that I figured out what they were up to rather early on didn't help either. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that the characters seemed slightly too young. Indeed, the main character had been married, got a child who died when he was about 10 years old, got divorced and finally met again his ex-wife after 2 years. Well, it seemed quite a lot for someone in his late 30's. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was nothing really ground-breaking, I thought it was still a solid thriller and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Un triller/drama que pasa una hora de su duración para armar lo que sería un desarollo lento, pero apropiado para una solida, inquietante y simple experiencia sobre una reunión muy sospechosa; al menos, es para experimentarla una vez.

The Invitation review

There isn't really much on Netflix that has caught my eye at this point of the night (Midnight). I just decided to go ahead and go with this one. It has a decent cast and seems like it may be interesting. Oh well that's not a good sign. This is directed by Karyn Kusama. She has yet to make a movie I like. Aeon Flux and Jennifer's Body were just awful. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi also wrote Aeon Flux. They also did the Ride Along films, Clash of the Titans, and R.I.P.D. all of which I enjoyed. Well that's definitely a way to open a story. This has definitely got to be an awkward situation. I don't trust this at all. She seems a bit off. It's certainly an interesting group of friends we have here. So is that kid actually there or just a memory. That was a bit of a disturbing to do to friends. I guess that explains that. I'm ready for things to explode in violent fashion. Well that took a dark turn. I understand why he feels the way he does. I would in this situation as well. Yeah these are some pretty dysfunctional people. Over halfway through and nothing I would say is horror has happened. Oh finally there is something that gives some concerns. This is mostly a drama with a dash of thriller. I'm still waiting for the "horror" element and it's less than a half hour left. Finally it gets real! Oh wow this is insane! Jeez that made it even more brutal. Okay that ending was actually brilliant and unexpected. You know the huge amount of waiting we do here is well worth it in the end. I mean who would have though such a massively slow build could have such an epic outcome? The acting was really well done even from the fairly unknown. I enjoyed the characters. I congratulate Karyn Kusama for finally making something actually enjoyable. I definitely recommend this for those with patience. It sure is a virtue with this one.
