The Devil Wears Prada review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 27 May 2014 08:23

OK, I know this movie is a hyped-up version of what celebrity personal assistants face in the world, but it's cute anyway because it reminds me of when I first started out as a PA.

A good movie

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, sure, I will admit that this movie is actually nothing really amazing but, to be honest, I still think it is actually pretty damned entertaining though. Above all, I think it was quite a milestone for many of the actors involved. Indeed, for Meryl Streep, it was a giant step to show that even though she wasn't the youngest anymore, she could be more than a (the most) talented actress around but also a really bankable one. As usual, she was so good in this movie but I wouldn't expect less from her. For Emily Blunt, it was of course her breakthrough performance. Seriously, she was indeed pretty much pitch-perfect and it’s too bad her character was not used more and kept disappearing as she was definitely the highlight of this flick. Nowadays, she is a really sought after actress but I still wait for something mind-blowing coming from her and I have seen almost all her other movies by now. For Anne Hathaway, even though she was definitely overshadowed by the rest of the cast (even by Stanley Tucci), it was still a nice addition into her resume and she would slowly become one of the most interesting actresses of her generation after all. Not too shabby for someone who started with some Disney feature. Of course, the plot was actually really predictable but the cast was just so good so I had a good time watching this, even the 2nd time around. Anyway, to conclude, I think it is a solid comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

The Devil Wears Prada review

"The Devil Wears Prada" is a master of witty humor and refined, fun to see. The film is also a full plate for anyone who loves fashion, but the most attentive to realize that the message goes far beyond that. Anne Hathaway acted very well on the scene and the inspired performance from Meryl Streep waiver adjectives. She is such a diva, is another level. David Frankel's direction is swift and competent, the supporting team is luxurious. Everything in "The Devil Wears Prada" pleases. I'm not a fan of the movie, but I can say that Miranda Priestly is the most iconic female character in movies in the past decade. Meryl Streep didn't win the Oscar for one thing such as: comedy. The film has a certain status of comedy, so much that Meryl won the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy. If producers weren't so worried about leaving the cute and funny movie, if they were more faithful to the book and the movie was serious, more dramatic tone, Meryl would have won the Oscar.

Not bad for a time filler. Other then that it felt to me as if it was just a little too drawn out and it tries to be comedic at times but just doesn't touch the funny bone at all. Thin & dull are the words that come to mind.
Although it might be entertaining for girly girls having a girls night in and wanting something to watch that doesn't take any effort to follow or matter if you miss some of it.

Nothing special

The story is somehow entertaining but the plot is very predictable and the characters aren't outlined very well... Just one of these sketchy movies...

surprisingly good

this was on top of my "never want to see it" list (ok, 2nd, right after Sleepy Hollow ...). Too fashion-ish, too girl-ish, too-whatever.

But now that I saw it, I really enjoyed it. It's a nice, shallow story and fashion is just the carrier, not the topic. So do your girlfriends a favor, rent this movie, you wont regret and they will love you (even more).
