An average movie

Posted : 2 years, 10 months ago on 25 May 2021 10:14

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I was actually positively surprised by this movie. Indeed, the damned thing turned out to be really intense and I have to admit that I was actually on the edge of my seat through most of the duration. Seriously, I think I will never forget the scene during which these parents have to throw their kids from the roof of some building because, otherwise, they would all get executed on the spot. Still, it’s too bad that the setup was pretty shaky. I mean, could you imagine yourself going to live in Cuba a day before Castro took over the country or in Chile a day before Pinochet overthrew Allende? Of course, I get that the whole point was to drop them in a strange country from which they didn’t know anything about but, in my opinion, it would have made more sense if this family would have been living there for quite some time. Concerning Pierce Brosnan, it is always neat to see him playing some darker version of James Bond and he did deliver a solid performance but I’m not sure if the movie actually needed him. On top of that, it was rather lame that the guy didn’t show up once but twice completely randomly to save their ass. In a similar fashion, it happened too many times that this average couple would be able to take down a whole bunch of armed rebels by themselves. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, the damned thing was actually really effective and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Thoughts before I watched this.
1. I have been waiting awhile to watch this.
2. I just recently had the chance to check it out.
3. Owen Wilson isn't really on the top of my actors list.
4. I do really enjoy Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan.
5. I'm glad Lake Bell replaced Michelle Monaghan not that I have a problem with the latter.
6. I tend to like these crazy sorts of films where people must fight for survival and such.
7. I have enjoyed everything I have seen from John Erick and Drew Dowdle.
8. After this the only one left I will need to see is Poughkeepsie Tapes.
9. They brought us As Above So Below, Quarantine, and wrote it's sequel.
10. It should be interesting to see them take on thriller rather than just pure horror.
11. It's interesting to note that the country was left unnamed to avoid any controversy.
12. People still found things that bothered them.
13. Either way for me I see this simply as a form of entertainment and far from factually based.
14. Time to see if this was worth waiting for.

"In their new overseas home, an American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape in an environment where foreigners are being immediately executed."

Thoughts while I watched this.
1. Something fishy is going on I wonder what.
2. Not at all what I was expecting wow!
3. Damn that was hardcore!
4. What a great opening for what I expect to happen quite a bit later on.
5. Pretty sure he is going to have some more scars after this trip.
6. I don't know if he is trustworthy or just really intense.
7. This actually reminds me a little of what it was like in Ethiopia with the way shops and such are.
8. I just feel something is about to happen very soon.
9. That would be kind of terrifying if you had no idea what was going on.
10. Wow that got brutal and chilling quickly.
11. Get out of there faster!
12. The terrifying thing about all this is it could happen any country (even America of course) if the people were fed up enough.
13. Is this little idiot girl going swimming without a lifeguard?
14. The music and way everyone is makes it seem totally safe, but we know it isn't.
15. That would make for an unexpected twist of fate.
16. Damn these guys have no chill.
17. Way to rip off the bandage!
18. Lol really dad jokes at a time like this?
19. WTF I've never seen that as a form of execution!
20. Oh man I wonder the thoughts running through his head.
21. Well these guys definitely mean business.
22. You have to pretty reckless to do something like that.
23. But why do that?!
24. Man that guy needs to die ASAP for that.
25. Eww no I didn't want to see that :(
26. Oh my god! They killed Kenny!
27. Damnnnnnnnnn!!!
28. Well nothing here is ever easy that's for sure.
29. You can't tell me this dude isn't pure evil.
30. That was bittersweet.

Thoughts after I watched this.
1. I felt super tense throughout this whole thing even scenes where I knew the outcome would be okay.
2. It surely keeps you invested from beginning to end.
3. The Dowdle brothers really know how to cater to my enjoyment.
4. I think this is highly underrated due to it's controversies.
5. The acting was great from everyone even the little girls.
6. Owen Wilson is still not one of my favorites, but he does make you care about his character.
7. I might have liked this more than most people because it was what I was hoping it would be.
8. It doesn't require too much thinking and it has high entertainment value in my opinion.
9. If you like movies that will make you white-knuckled through the whole thing I definitely suggest this one.
