(OK) A bit boring, but such character study and finesse in a maisntream film is not so common: Hurt is a not an acciental and no a tourist, is a man reluctant to life, more than a snob, and Murial/Geena Davis is an excellent motif

William Hurt plays a depressed travel writer struggling to come to terms with his son's death. He buys a dog for companionship, then hires an eccentric dog trainer (Geena Davis, who won an Oscar for her role) to teach it to behave. She, in turn, teaches him to reconnect to life. But as he is beginning to admit his feelings for her to himself, he is blindsided by the return of his estranged wife (Kathleen Turner), who attempts to rekindle their marriage.

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- January 2017 (30 movies items)

" HBO Now- 2hrs. 1min. First Viewing A too-leisurely pace and a multitude of cliches prevent The Accidental Tourist from reaching the upper echelon of "overcoming grief" pictures. It's still an often solid viewing; the cast is quite good, several scenes do contain admirable restrained, and John Williams gets to show off one of his finest musical scores (even if it doesn't really fit with the movie). If the film could've only found a way to trim the fat and make a leaner, less meandering film. "
