Superbad review

Believe the title

I don't usually feel compelled to write reviews of things I don't like, but after the 'hype' that surrounded this I felt compelled! This film is quite extraordinarily charmless and unfunny - I actually gave up on it after an hour (so it may conceivably be redeemed by the world's best ending, but I doubt it).

Michael Cera, so good in Juno, should have known better, as he could have spared tarnishing his CV. Where American Pie at least had some laughs with its dollops of crudity, this film seems to think it's good enough just to make as many crass references as possible and forgets that it might be nice to actually make it funny. South Park, Team America, Farrelly brothers movies etc remember you need to actually put some good gags, engaging characters and dialogue in the script, not just an endless stream of puerile rubbish.

Quite why some film mags gave this such good reviews is beyond me - it feels like a script cooked up in 10 minutes by bored kids trying to shock. Don't waste your time.

A good movie

Since I kept hearing some really good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out and which such an awesome title, there was definitely some potential. Eventually, to be honest, I thought it was quite entertaining but not as good as I thought it would be. I mean, Jonah Hill and Michael Cera were very good and the movie was pretty awesome until the end of the first half. Then, in my personal point of view, the story went just way over the top and I kind of lost interest in the whole thing. I mean, sure, it was still entertaining but I didn't feel involved as much as before. Eventually, this movie would launch the career of Jonah Hill and Emma Stone and, seven years later, they are still doing pretty good (it is actually pretty weird how much Jonah Hill has changed through the following years). Eventually, I could have been really great but it was just a fun comedy with some decent jokes, no more no less. To conclude, at the end of the day, even though it might not be a masterpiece, it is still a pretty good movie and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Superbad

Superbad? Nearly. Supergood? Nowhere near. Super....alright? I feel like I wasted my time watching this, really. I thought with all of the great reviews and things I have heard about this, it would be great. I expected too much, because to me this was just bizarre and apart from a few jokes, not funny.

The beginning was an excuse to swear as many possible times as you can in an hour. Seriously, it didn't even make any sense. Towards the end was just strange, with heaps of useless jokes that I just could not find it in me to laugh at. Somewhere in the middle I found myself actually enjoying it, so that must be the reason I can actually give this 2 stars.

Jonah Hill will be remembered for his role in this. Although the stuff his character says is pointless, the stupidness and amount of times he can swear in a sentence is actually funny. Michael Cera I thought was pretty decent in this, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse's 'McLovin' I will always remember, just to say that word in itself is funny. You'll know what I mean if you've seen the movie. I suppose the actor I liked the most was Bill Hader.

I wouldn't recommend this, although it seems like everyone else seems to love this... I didn't.
