An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2015 10:52

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I remember it very well, I actually saw this movie in the movie theater at the time. Back then, there was a lot of buzz because it was François Ozon’s directorial debut. To be honest, I had never heard of the guy before but, apparently, he had built up a solid reputation by directing many acclaimed short features. Anyway, I was curious about this flick but, eventually, I really didn’t like it at all. However, nowadays, even if this debut is rather obscure, it has still managed to reach a cult-status in France. Well, after all these years, I have to admit that it was not as bad as I remembered. First of all, I was actually surprised by how much I remembered it even though I saw it only once 25 years ago and didn’t like it at all at the time. Still, to be honest, the damned thing was only slightly better though. Indeed, there was actually some potential but, from the moment Sophie jumped out of the window for no reason whatsoever, the whole thing became just so random, weird and, above all, rather tedious to behold. I mean, I do like black humor and I really don’t mind when a movie is dealing with some controversial stuff but I just really didn’t connect at all with this flick. Above all, even though it was supposed to be funny, the characters were rather obnoxious. Anyway, to conclude, even if it might not be as bad as I thought it was, the damned thing was still pretty weak though and I don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of François Ozon’s work.
