Flavors of Youth Reviews

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, I thought it was directed by Makoto Shinkai who made the massively successful 'Your Name.' but it was in fact directed by 3 other guys. Anyway, it wasn't a big deal as it turned out to be a fine watch after all. Indeed, it was so refreshing to see a traditionally hand-drawn animated feature and I really enjoyed these three little romantic tales. The first story was about some noodles and it reminded me of 'Tampopo' with its delicious food and I really enjoyed the nostalgic and melancholic tone. The second short story involving 2 sisters was probably the least successful one maybe because I have a hard time believing that the life of a top model could be so difficult. Furthermore, the link with the main theme was rather thin in my opinion. Eventually, the last short-story was maybe the best one as it was just so romantic but also really realistic and I could really relate with the main character. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was nothing really groundbreaking, it was still a fine anthology and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
