" Notes: I’m usually not a big fan of such vintage Western and this one turned out to be some kind of romantic love letter to the US cavalry. In fact, if there would have been enough Indians alive to fight at the time, it could have been almost described as a propaganda film. Still, I have to admit that the damned thing was not bad at all. Personally, I enjoyed above all the numerous horse chases which were so well made and quite thrilling to watch. Furthermore, I have to admit that I’m not "

“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this movie but since it seemed to have a decent reputation (it is indeed included in the ‘They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They?’ list among other things), I thought I might as well check it out. Well, first of all, I saw it on the BBC without subtitles so I have to admit that I did struggle a little bit to follow the dialogues. "19.6 Kyllähän mä näistä tykkään. Kärtty-Ford maalailee paksuilla pensseleillä ja arkkityyppien paletilla. Monument Valleyn punaisia kivipaaseja ratsastellaan ympäri, kansanlauluja laulellaan ja nyrkkitapellaan veljellisesti. Se mikä toiselle on kaamean vanhanaikaista, nykykatsannossa moraalisesti arveluttavaa puskafarssia on toiselle ameerikan kalevalaa, ihmisyksilön kiteytymistä yhteisön perinteissä, rituaaleissa sekä ennen kaikkea täydellisen viihdyttävää elokuvaa. "What begins as a lighthearted, if reflective, film about a soldier’s impending retirement becomes one of John Ford’s most elegiac depictions of the American West. John Wayne stars as Nathan Brittles, a cavalry captain tasked with one last mission to tame a group of natives still rebelling after the Battle of Little Big Horn. Though sent to suppress the tribes, Brittles laments both the end of his service career and the likelihood of violence against the Cheyenne, with whom he has enjoyed a r"

"The last job of Calvary Captain Nathan Brittles before retirement is to soothe relations with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians after Custer's last stand. At the same time, he must transport the wife and niece of his commanding officer to a safe destination. After both his missions stall, Brittles attempts a face-to-face meeting with an important Native American chief in order to stave off an impending war. This movie marks the centrepiece of director John Ford's 'Cavalry Trilogy' (following For"

"John Ford's 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' was the second film in the director's celebrated Cavalry Trilogy, flanked by 'Fort Apache' and 'Rio Grande'. Of the three, 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' is the finest by virtue of its warm, witty script, its sumptuous Technicolor cinematography, its rousing use of the title theme song and a strong, moving performance by John Wayne. Yes, that's not a typo! A great performance by John Wayne. As a performer who got by more on screen presence than on acting talent"
