Siobhán (Hermione Corfield) is a brilliant young marine biology student, more at home amidst laboratory equipment than people. As a component of her studies, she boards a trawler overseen by a couple (Dougray Scott and Connie Nielsen) whose amiable demeanour shields both financial worries and profound grief. Siobhán is not exactly welcomed aboard: her cool, scientific perspective is at odds with that of the salty, superstitious crew of "fishmen" led by Dougray Scott. Not long after setting sail, the old ship's hull is latched onto by a bizarre, bioluminescent creature of unknown origin.

" Taking it far out into it's namesake, Sea Fever succeeds in presenting it's water-plagued concept with the deserted desperation that results from being stuck out in the middle of the vast ocean. A sense of helpless horror that is anchor by a fluorescent fathomed sea-creature with a grasp that winds from deep within the depths and coincidentally, works well into the current anxiety that is our worldwide pandemic situation. Now, by sheer chance, at the time of this writing, streaming services"

" OTaking it far out into it's namesake, Sea Fever succeeds in presenting it's water-plagued concept with the deserted desperation that results from being stuck out in the middle of the vast ocean. Helping to increase the helplessly anchored sense of horror, from deep within the depths rises a fluorescent fathomed sea-creature that works coincidentally well into the current anxiety that is our worldwide pandemic situation. Film Journal 2021 (130 movies items)

"This has it's heart in the right place but it lacks the intensity to make the paranoia and despair tangible and it lacks the willingness to go all-out on the body horror to be particularly effective on that front either. It's commitment to realism and portraying these events in rather dry fashion is both a boon and a flaw. I can't argue that it doesn't succeed at doing that, but it just doesn't make for the most fascinating film. "

My Top 20 Halloween Favorites: From The Depths (20 movies items)

"One of the main reasons I like this film and other movies like it is because watching it puts me in a certain perspective when it comes to current cinema. It's makes me think about the special effects technology that the movie industry has available today, in which it's possible to make any horror creature look viable on the modern theater screen. And yet, I am still often surprised how many times the fear industry can't seem to match the tech with the theme of a horror flick. Sea Fever takes a "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2020: April (33 movies items)

"First viewing - April 11th Horror at sea double feature After Harpoon I first considered checking out another recommendation from the list, but opted instead to watch another film about people at sea instead. The two films have some things in common, despite taking a completely different approach overall. This one has clear influences from The Thing and Alien, though it never quite reaches the heights of those films. It's far more grounded in reality, which surprisingly works well enough. The c"
