“To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was on the '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die' list, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, I have to admit that I had a rather hard time to connect with this movie. First of all, I saw it a little bit late so I wasn't really focused. On top of that, it didn't help that John Huston's voice was terribly monotonous and, even though what he told the viewers was quite informative, I don't think it always matched the action on the screen. As a result, while I was constantly trying to follow his narration, I was also struggling to follow at the same time what was actually going on on the battlefield.
