A good movie

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 19 February 2015 10:29

To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and it would be pretty need to check it out again. Nowadays, it is pretty much forgotten but I always had a weak spot for this flick. Indeed, I have always been fascinated by poker, I even used to play with some colleagues but I stopped because I wasnโ€™t good enough, and, in my opinion, it is one of the best movies about this subject. Basically, you had 2 of the best actors of this generation (Matt Damon and Edward Norton) and also a very solid supporting cast (Gretchen Mol, John Malkovich, John Turturro, Famke Janssen, Goran Visnjic). At the time, John Dahl was pretty much the unofficial champion of the film noir, I always liked his work but this would be unfortunately his last movie in this genre and his following movies would become increasingly disappointing. Eventually, the whole gimmick of the guy who is able to read peopleโ€™s mind is at the same time pretty neat but also a little be boring because since it is a fiction, there is not much really at stake. Still, I think it is a fun movie, probably the best movie about poker and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested by this subject.

Two of the finest actors in Hollywood play off each other in this thriller.Matt Damon plays a card shark trying to stay out of trouble. Edward Norton plays his friend who keeps dragging him back into trouble. The final poker game is so perfectly paced that you can't look away.

Rounders review

I thought this was pretty decent. It does have two of my favourite actors so of course that made it more appealing to me, in fact that was the reason I picked this up in the first place. It can be a little slow I guess, and I can understand it could be boring for people who absolutely hate movies about poker. So that's the first thing - If you hate movies based around playing cards then do yourself a favour and don't waste your time. For me it was fine, I don't mind that at all.

Matt Damon looks really young in this flick, but he is himself and kind of relaxed playing this kind of character. Edward Norton was again amazing. I'm telling you this guy can ace any role, without him my rating would be a lot lower. Oh and John Malkovich was just brilliant, not the acting as such but more just his personality fitting well to the character.

A nice drama about poker that really should be seen by more people. It's oldish but worth watching if you don't mind these types of movies.
