Darker, grittier take on the Robin Hood legend
The legend of Robin Hood is a Hollywood staple that has served as fodder for countless adventure films. Due to remakes and reinterpretations on a regular basis, the story was drained of tension a long time ago, leaving almost no new ground to explore. " This Ridley Scott version of the tail that's been told too many times isn't bad. It's got a lot of the elements I like about bow-and-arrow movies, yet it's about Robin Hood, a character and story that I perceive as more jaunty and light-hearted, this movie is just so serious and dark. Once again, that's not an entirely bad thing, just not a version I prefer. Plus it's kind of boring compared to past versions. "

"15/4/17 Ridley Scott's ambitious retelling of the legend of Robin Hood but events just after the crusades is a long and laborious film with plenty of well executed set pieces but dodgy accents abound and a lack of humour to lighten an otherwise deadly series film. Thankfully, Mark Strong and Oscar Issac save the day. The final battle scene is more like the opening of Saving Private Ryan but with arrows. "
