A good movie

Posted : 12 years, 11 months ago on 31 May 2011 09:09

Since it was Robert Altman's last movie, obviously, I really had to see this feature at some point. First of all, as usual with Altman, there was an amazing cast (Meryl Streep , Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Kline, Lindsay Lohan, Virginia Madsen, John C. Reilly,...) and they all gave good perfomances, even Lohan. As a matter o fact, even though the movie was actually pretty light, while watching it, I couldnโ€™t help being a little bit sad and nostalgic. Indeed, not only it was Robert Altmanโ€™s last feature so we will never see another movie from this great master but it was also probably the last decent movie Linsday Lohan did before a career became a big waste... Seriously, this was already 5 years ago! Will she ever come back?!? We'll see but as the time goes by, it seems more and more unlikely... Anyway, coming back to our main feature, it was a nice little movie but I can't say I was blown away by the whole thign since I wasn't much aware of this "radio" culture and honestly I didn't care much about the subject. Still, it is definitely worth a look especially if you're interested in Robert Altman's work.

Atmosphere

Posted : 13 years, 4 months ago on 29 December 2010 03:25

I know nothing about this kind of entertainment because I was born another time and another country.
Two things I like about this movie is atmosphere and love for details that is actually a part of the atmosphere. This spirit of creativity surrounding these people involved in the show lets you experience this movie in one breath. And that is the most exciting thing about the movie - nothing seems to happen but your attention is sticked to it.
This won't be done without such a special characters and scenes. Look at this security guy that pinches his right hand in various places. And this Garrison's "duct tape" freestyle speech to fill the time gap, when Molly messes up with papers for next number, which continues totally unexpected. What about these Lefty and Dusty cowboys with their bawdy jokes? All this mixed with great songs and music over the time of whole movie!

"Why do we work so hard to get what we don't even want?" (song)

"One piece of pizza slice puts me in paradise." (adv)

Delicate. Spiritual. Lifelike.

I love the radio show, but it did not transition well into a movie. The best parts are the music.
