A bad movie

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 10 May 2014 05:48

Honestly, I was expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Sylvester Stallone, I thought I might as well give a try. Well, Stallone has done some pretty lame movies in the 80โ€™s (later on that as well, as a matter of factโ€ฆ) but this one is definitely one of the worst ones. Apparently, Sylvester Stallone himself was well aware how bad the whole thing was and did it just because Menahem Golan offered him an insane amount of money. Basically, the whole thing is a rather odd and misguided mix between a family drama and sport feature involving arm wrestling, of all sports. Right from the start, you get a really cheesy scene with Stallone cleaning up his truck with some typical corny 80โ€™s music. From that point, they never looked back and the whole thing was just pathetic. The weird thing is some of the scenes about the father-son relationship were not bad at all but these scenes were lost in the rest of the movie which was pretty worthless. To conclude, it was pretty bad and I donโ€™t think it is really worth a look whatsoever, except maybe if you are a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone.

Typical 80's movie

See one 80's movie, you've probably seen them all.
Well Over The Top is a movie from the 80's that followed every 80's before it.
Sylvester Stallone plays a trucker/arm wrestler that left his wife and son years before and comes into his estranged son's life when his wife in near death. They both head on a journey and split half way through and the kid figures that he loves his father and all this while Stallone's character is preparing for the arm wrestling championship in Vegas.
Acting is sub par compared to anything dramatic but is good enough to entertain.
The soundtrack is filled with crappy pop music that filled all movies of the time which could be a bad thing but wasn't a issue here.
Overall its a entertaining movie to see once but don't really a movie to see over and over again.
