"17 January. Both Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton should be commended for their performances since one doesn't come without the other in this true story about the inter-racial marriage that paved way to a landmark supreme court ruling. This drama is not your usual powerhouse acting but while subdued, its emotional impact could move mountains. Love in all its purity. "
“Sure, there are moments in Loving where the prestige format threatens to put the more quiet, lo-fi charms in a strangle hold, but they’re easily forgiven. Loving keeps everything at a simmer, preferring to place the focus on these two very private people instead of the cultural pyrotechnics going off all around them. It’s a wonderful little movie about love trumping hate. Telling the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving and their Supreme Court case which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws, Loving does fold too easily into a three act structure at times. There’s the opening section in Virginia where they are arrested in the middle of the night for cohabitation, a forced 25 year banishment where the relocate to Washington, D.C., and, of course, their eventual return to Vi” read more

"4/2/17 A touching and tender story about a multiracial marriage that, during the 1960's was shunned, leading to a series of court cases. Based on a true story, writer and director Jeff Nichols doesn't go for over-dramatics, instead concentrated on the relationship between Joe Edgerton's Richard and Ruth Negga's Mildred. Outstanding performances in an understated drama."

“Notes:
*I have been wanting to see this forever as it made way for the kind of life I would live.
*I waited to see it only so I could see it with my wife who is from Ethiopia.
*I felt it would be a good story for us to watch together as it lead the way to make it possible for us to be together.
*Another reason is because even though Mildred Loving was African American she is played by Ruth Negga who has Ethiopian heritage.
*I also really like the other actors involved here.
*Jeff Nichols is a very interesting filmmaker with Mud and Midnight Special.
*Anyways I'm glad I finally have the chance to check it out.
Pros:
*The chemistry between Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton was amazing.
*The acting ” read more
“Great story well narrated and not many more about it. Mildred is a bit incoherent, too selfconscious some times, too shy some times. The imtimate moments, as the one inmortalized in a Life magazine photo, are the best. A pity they are so few.” read more
"2 NOMS Ruth Negga Best Actor - Motion Picture - Joel Edgerton "
"1.Natalie Portman- JackieLikely the favorite. Lock. 2.Emma Stone- La La LandComplete lock. 3.Amy Adams- ArrivalWhile nothing after #1 & #2 are locks, I'm starting to feel more and more confident about Adams chances. Arrival has been gaining a lot of momentum lately, with notices from the NBR and Critic' Choice Awards, and Adams' performance is a huge part of that. Plus, she's incredibly well liked by the Academy (she's got five nominations). Certainly no lock, but I'm going with my gut. 4.Ann"
