Description:
Jake Schwartz, an apprentice for Fogarty, an Irish plumber, is forced to support his widowed mother on the miserly stipend of twelve dollars a week. He hopes eventually to be able to marry and support Sarah Levine, who supports her entire family by working in a garment factory. While on his way to work, Jake notices the careening automobile of Mrs. Sam Levis, wife of a retired manufacturer, who is subject to fainting spells; mistaking her falling arm as an invitation to ride, he hops in the front seat.
