An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 1 month ago on 4 March 2015 10:32

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since Nick, my step-son, was really eager to watch it, I bought this on dvd. Well, at least, it was slightly better than the really lame 'The Legend of Hercules' which was released a few months before. Indeed, it was apparently a pet project for Dwayne Johnson and I have to admit that the guy was perfect for the title role. There was also a decent supporting cast (Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Joe Anderson and Irina Shayk even managed to show her nice little ass even though she had only maybe 2 minutes of screen time!). Unfortunately, thatโ€™s pretty much the only positive things I could find regarding this movie. Indeed, they tried to convince us that they would give a different take on this legendary figure (this time, the guy is not a demi-God, he is actually a mercenary who can fight very well, pretty much like Achilles in 'Troy') but I didnโ€™t really buy it and I thought it was in fact rather boring. Towards the end, they even added a supposedly clever twist but it was just as underwhelming as the rest. To conclude, it could have been worse but it was pretty weak and I don't think it is really worth a look.

Hercules review

I had no idea this was a Brett Ratner movie. All I knew is that it looked awesome and has a superb cast. I am one of the ones who actually likes Brett Ratner films with the exception of X-Men: Last Stand (which honestly sucked ass!). The group that follows kind of reminds me of a more violent version of Thor's crew. The way this story is told is quite different than your typical Hercules. In this telling we are given a world where legends and myths are basically just stories and aren't seen as reality. I have a feeling if this were any more violent it would have been an R rated film. There are some amazing battle sequences throughout. I thought the CGI was great and had so much small details to the creatures. There are some unexpected twists and turns that were done pretty well. I actually really enjoyed this. Dwayne Johnson played Hercules perfectly. John Hurt was amazing as usual and probably had some of the best dialogue. Tydeus and Atalanta were badass and probably my favorites of an already stellar group of characters. It was loads better than that Legend of Hercules pile of crap although they have similarities. I would say this shouldn't have been PG-13, but it should be noted that anyone under 17 should still be accompanied as this is a pretty brutal movie with a few disturbing elements.
