Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick. Personally, even though Ashton Kutcher seems to have a rather poor reputation, I have nothing against him and I don't find him horrible but I can't say I find him inspiring either. Eventually, this flick was not bad but the main issue (like most of the remakes) is that you keep wondering if it was really necessary to remake such a classic. On top of that, even though they try to convince you that it was edgy to switch the colors of the characters, I think that if they kept the same setting, it wouldn’t have been accepted to have white characters displaying such a racist behavior. On the other hand, to have some black folks showing some major racial prejudices was not a problem and it shows how far we have moved from our past sins towards the black nation (not very far, apparently…). Anyway, after leaving such thoughts, I have to recognize that Kutcher and Saldana made a cute and believable couple and Bernie Mac was, a usual, pretty funny. To conclude, beside being a totally unecessary and possibly misguided remake, it is a rather well made and unoriginal romantic comedy but if you love this genre, I think it is worth a look.
