Starring Roger Moore, 1974's Gold feels like a spin off from the Bond movies in many ways. The title sequence was designed by Maurice Binder and feels very Bond-ish, as well as somewhat of a precursor to the long running soap opera Dallas. It also features a theme tune sung by Jimmy Helms which runs over the title sequence in very much the same manner as they do in Bond movies. I was half expecting him to start singing about someone who loves only Gold, though that didn't happen, possibly for copyright reasons.

Moore must have been a pretty busy man in this period as this was released jus” read more

Movie Reviews (1251-1300) (50 movies items)

" "Gold" has a lot of good things with it. It is based upon a novel and screenplay by novelist Wilbur Smith who is an expert on Africa and the movie feels realistic and full of atmospheric style. I like the title sequence that one almost could say inspired "Dallas" for TV several years later. I also like the cast and Roger Moore feels more believable and relaxed in this film than he ever was as 007. Peter R. Hunt is an underrated director who combined good storytelling with fast editing and this "

"9/8/17 Roger Moore is the gold mining expert in South Africa, caught up in a dodgy deal in which a mine would be flooded to make a killing for a London money expert. A curious mess as director Peter Hunt takes his time with a script that is all over the place, with scenes that amount to nothing. Only the final act does the film come to life. Otherwise, it's a long, hard stretch."
