A good movie

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 4 June 2014 11:00

On one hand, I was quite eager to check this flick because it seems to have a pretty good reputation. On the other hand, with its running time of 270 minutes (it is officially the longest American film ever made), it was a rather daunting prospect. So, indeed, it is very long but I thought it went by pretty smoothly and it was definitely an interesting watch. Basically, the main goal of this production was accuracy and authenticity and since the battle of Gettysburg must be one of the best documented battles that ever took place, they made sure they had all the details right. In my opinion, the movie was divided in three type of scenes : the set-ups before attacking, the attacks themselves and some random conversations between the soldiers. It was a nice touch that they didnโ€™t develop the background of the soldiers or got them involved in some annoying romance ร  la Pearl Harbor. On the downside, I noticed that it only focused on the officers, usually the generals, and they didnโ€™t spend anytime with the common soldiers which was too bad in my opinion. Furthermore, the score was rather annoying and just way too repetitive for my taste. To conclude, even though it might not be a masterpiece, they will never be a better movie about this battle and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested by the subject.

The Battle of the Fishhook

"So I said to General Ewell, 'You will give me a (whole) division, and I will take that hill.' And General Ewell looked at the ground, and said nothing.

So I said to General Ewell, 'You will give me a brigade, (one, just one), and I will take that hill.' And General Ewell (just) looked at the ground, and said nothing.

By this time I had become a little disturbed (with the moron).

So I said, 'General Ewell. You will give me **a regiment** (just one bloody regiment!), and I will take that hill.' And General Ewell. Looked at the ground. And. Said...Nothing."

"You don't even need guns to defend that place, you could just, Roll rocks down on 'em!"

Fun times.

And on the other side...

"Our country, our Bolshevik Party, our great nation! Has given us the task, not to let the enemy reach the Volga. And to defend. The City. Of Stalingrad!"

Oh no, wait. Thst was the other one.

Well, you get the idea.

.......

She said she'd always been a dancer
She worked in fifteen clubs a day
And though she thought I knew the answer
Well, I knew what I could not say.

Berenger, lol.

(He's a lagoon all to himself, that one.)

WHOOPS WRONG ONE LOL.

Sundays on the phone to Monday, Tuesdays on the phone to me....

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

Oh, sure.

That was great.

And the 'that' would refer back to, which one, dad-uncle-people.

(7/10)
