I enjoy Chris Rock and I thought this looked like fun in the trailers so I knew I would check it out. There are tons of cameos here that are pretty cool. It had many laugh out loud moments and some just great scenes as well. I thought the stand-up scene felt legit improved instead of scripted. Some scenes were a little bit lame, but it didn't make me dislike this one. I wish Kevin Hart had more th... read more

A Top Five Chris Rock Film

Chris Rock is funny and the supporting cast is strong enough, although Tracy Morgan needs a larger role.

There wasn't really anything inventive about the film, pretty standard stuff. The areas in which they seemed to want to be different ended up being awkward and over-the-top.

An average movie

I had no idea what to expect from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. I was wondering if it was the first movie I saw directed by Chris Rock and, to be honest, I have to admit that I completely forgot that I saw years ago ‘I Think I Love My Wife’. Well, this movie was a big improvement on his previous directing effort but I was still n... read more

I was wondering if it was the first movie I saw directed by Chris Rock and, to be honest, I have to admit that I completely forgot that I saw years ago ‘I Think I Love My Wife’. Well, this movie was a big improvement on his previous directing effort but I was still not really convinced though. I mean, I did have some potential and, for at least half of the duration, it was rather unclear what was the goal of the makers but it made the whole thing actually quite intriguing. Unfortunately, when it turned out that the whole point was to make the main character fall in love with this journalist, I was rather disappointed by how generic and lame the outcome turned” read more

My Movie Diary 2017 (217 movies items)

" 17 January. You know that anything with Chris Rock in it is entertaining. In Top Five, he stars as a top comedian who spends time with a female journalist just talking and reliving experiences and learning new ones. Its basically an all-black Before Sunrise showcasing the wit and wisdom of Chris Rock. It starts off fresh but kind of turns to mush near the end.   "

"Chris Rock is a very talented comedian. He is hilarious and quite insightful. However, his career in movies has been lukewarm so far. With Top Five, he rectifies that by delivering a smart, funny, and surprisingly dramatic movie. Chris Rock really delivers a Woody Allen style movie in his own way by mixing drama with comedy very well. It tackles celebrity, alcoholism, and the need to reinvent oneself with depth, but it never gets in the way of the comedy. Speaking of comedy, the movie delivers a"
