"Predictions Best Actor for Denzel Washington Best Supporting Actress for Viola Davis"
“Fences is a triumph of acting and for bringing the great August Wilson onto a larger stage. Wilsonโs dialog and poetic sense of drama shake the screen and thunder down on you. Itโs an absorbing experience of watching working class black characters struggle and the heft of tragedy youโd normally find the works of someone like Arthur Miller. These are the unseen workers that help keep society flowing, but Wilson gives them a chance to say how and why they matter, to express their angers and dreams, to take center stage in the fabric of American storytelling. ย For all of these strengths, Fences is still slightly unsatisfying as a piece of cinema. The reason for this is simple, Denzel Washington is perhaps too in awe of the material and merely points a camera at his fellow actors. Fe” read more
"And the nominees are... *Viola Davis- Fences *Naomie Harris- Moonlight/b> *Nicole Kidman- Lion/b> *Octavia Spencer- Hidden Figures *Michelle Williams- Manchester by the Sea And the Oscar goes to... This is Davis's. Nobody else is coming close. Was I Right?: Everybody was. "
“Notes:
*This is adapted off a play that Denzel Washington (with Viola Davis) was actually in so that's pretty awesome.
*The original play in the 1980s had James Earl Jones in the lead!
*This is the third film directed by Denzel Washington himself and the first one I will have seen the whole thing.
*The man August Wilson who is credited for the screenplay even though he passed 11 years prior to the film is the man who wrote the play and book that this is adapted from.
*It's pretty cool that they don't seem to have messed with his story other than to make it work for a film.
*I have heard good things about this and from a legend like Denzel I am not surprised.
*So let's see if this as good as they say.

"SCREENING: Regular DATE: February 15th CINEMA: Picturehouse LOCATION: Greenwich"
"Great acting by every actor/actress, especially by Denzel and Viola Davis. Mykelti Williams was also a scene stealer .This movie was really play-like which really wasn't that surprising since it is based on a play. This leads to a moments that feel kinda weird in a drama movie with the theatre acting. "
" 11 January. More than a showcase of the inimitable talents of Denzel "King of mean" Washington and Viola "Queen of hurt" Davis, Fences, based on the play by August WIlson, is a piece of Americana, an almost solemn look into the lives of a blue-collared African-American family, centered on its proud patriarch. It is an exhilirating drama with a fine ensemble cast, and an overlooked performance by Mykelti Williamson (you gotta admit, he steals the scene each time he appears)."
"Best Picture Best Actor for Denzel Washington Best Supporting Actress for Viola Davis Best Adapted Screenplay"
"First viewing - Jan. 21st If Denzel & Viola don't get acting nominations for the Academy Awards this year for their performances then the Academy is full of morons. They both knock it out of the park, and between their acting and the dialogue that drives the story this is one hell of a film. I could tell the whole thing was adapted from a play because it feels like one at times, but that doesn't really take anything away from the film. Ah, and this film fit in well with the two above for bein"
"DENZEL WASHINGTON As TROY MAXSON In FENCES. "
"01/31/17 Directed by: Denzel Washington I wish I had more to say about this one. The pacing is really on point for the first half (it goes a little haywire towards the end but nothing too serious) and I really liked the set. I also really dug all the baseball metaphors. "
"January 31st Directed by: Denzel Washington This is the most "play" play I've ever seen. If you've seen a single play in your life you know what I'm talking about. At least this feels like a cohesive story instead of Manchester by the Sea's approach. But maybe I just didn't understand that one. On the other hand, why is this even a movie? Why is this nominated for Best Picture when it's not much like a film at all? I hate everything."
