An average movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have been become lately fascinated by Lรฉa Seydoux, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I ended up with some mixed feelings towards the damned thing. Indeed, on one hand, it was sometimes pretty much a spellbinding thriller dealing with the fall of the French monarchy from a very specific point of view, the point of view of one of the Queen's servants. On the other hand, I didn't care much about this (apparently) platonic lesbian love triangle involving this servant, the Queen and a duchess who might have been the Queen's lover. By the way, it was really neat to see again Virginie Ledoyen after all these years but even though she was still gorgeous, I'm afraid she might have been slightly too old to play this part. Anyway, almost half of the movie was about the fact that his servant was pretty much in love with her master but since Marie Antoinette, at least in this movie, seemed to be so shallow, completely out of touch with the rest of the world, and, frankly, rather boring, it was rather difficult to understand why the main character would love her so much. Still, there was something quite fascinating to see the fall of this decadent time from within Versailles. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I thought it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
