A good movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, with its quirky poster and title, it seemed to be rather intriguing so I was quite eager to check it out. Basically, like many actors before him, Liev Schreiber decided to make his directing début and, eventually, I thought it turned out to be actually pretty good. Indeed, the directing was decent enough and, above all, I really loved the first half which was just hilarious with some great dialogues and some seriously weird and whimsical characters. But, then, during the second half, it became suddenly really deep and serious and the end was eventually even rather heartbreaking. To be honest, this rather brutal switch was a little bit hard to digest. Still, the story was really intriguing and the actors delivered some good performances. Indeed,  Elijah Wood was fine but I was also impressed by 2 unknowns actors called Eugene Hutz and Boris Leskin. It is interesting that even though Elijah Wood had reached some major stardom with the Lord of the Rings trilogy since then he has mostly showed up in such small and even rather obscure productions like this one. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its quirkiness, I thought it was a pretty good tale and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Watch this one

Wow, I really fell in love with this movie. I was trying to think of adjectives to describe this film and too many popped up: strange, trippy, wonderful, bizzare, funny, heart warming, sad. What an emotional roller coaster ride. This is one of those small independent films that come along that you must see. You may not like it but you have to give them credit for putting together a very entertaining story.

The story follows Wood's character as he goes back to Russia to find the woman that saved his grandfather from the Nazis. He meets up with some very interesting characters along the way. There is a dog in the movie that is very deranged that ends up befriending Wood. The dog is worth watching the movie by herself.

Even though Wood goes through so many bizarre adventures along the way, the movie has some very tender moments. The director has paced the movie to keep our emotions moving up and down and left us wondering what could possibly be around the next corner.

This one is on cable in my area right now and is well worth a night's entertainment. If you don't see it listed in your cable area, look for it at your friendly movie rental location.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
