"16.11. Visuaalisesti upeaksi hehkutetussa meksikolaiselokuvassa maanomistaja esittää yhteistyöhaluista sekä kapinallisille että hallituksen joukoille säilyttääkseen oman elintasonsa. Ihastumisella vihjailevaksi kolmiodraamaksi äityvä elokuva on tyyliltään tavanomaista varhaista äänielokuvaa, josta en itse onnistunut löytämään kovinkaan paljoa niitä visuaalisia upeuksia. Tavanomaisena kolmiodraamana El compadre Mendoza on kuitenkin oikein perusvarma suoritus."
