An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 29 January 2015 10:27

Of course, I already saw this movie back in the 90's but it was a while back so I was quite eager to check it out again. In fact, it was the first script that Quentin Tarantino was paid to write, for the mere sum of $1,500 and it was one of the first projects involving him and Robert Rodriguez (‘Desperado’ and ‘Four Rooms’ were both released earlier though). Well, like everything else written by Quentin Tarantino, it quickly became a cult classic. However, even if it is a fun flick, to be honest, it is still nothing really amazing though. I mean, if you have never heard of this movie before then it is pretty neat because, half way through, you have this huge twist (that’s what happened to my sister actually). Unfortunately, before watching this , I knew what was going to happen, so the surprise was rather ruined for me and I just didn’t care much for the second half of this story. In my opinion, it is pretty much a glorified B feature and, back then, Tarantino thought he could be also an actor (fortunately, he dropped the idea since then) but while watching this again, it was pretty obvious that the guy should stick to writing and directing. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I have to admit it, it is still a decent flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Vampires. No Interviews.

Two brothers go on the road and run from the law, and what seems like the hard part of earning their money is over. Over the border and safe in Mexico, now all they have to do is wait at a bar until morning for what they deserve. Little did they know the bar they headed to was possessed with both good and bad traits. The Titty Twister is full of women who drop clothes like they’re on fire for the crowd and make the night one to remember. If that doesn’t get every guy's attention, the part where they lock in everyone, turn to vampires and kill all the customers who have instantly lost their hard ons. Each brother has something to bring them to the screen individually. The character played by George Clooney is extremely badass Seth Gecko; who’s quick with a gun and not afraid to do battle. Making somewhat of a cameo (he wrote this and partially directed it) is the infamous Quentin Tarantino playing Seth’s brother Richard, who is extremely disturbed and can not stop killing the hostages he accompanies, even if they cooperate. Trapped in this hellish nudey bar and skilled enough to stand a chance against them, the Gecko brothers team up with their hostages and other customers to stay alive until dawn; until the sun becomes the living’s chance at freedom. There are multiple scenes of violence, it reminded me almost of a tales from the crypt movie, much like Demon Knight. Nudity, parties and sharp things headed into flesh, a definite piece Director Robert Rodriguez should be proud of and call among his best films. Making his appearance in front of the screen is makeup legend Tom Savini, playing a dangerous gunman named Sex Machine, who’s deadliest weapon is right between his legs and hard as a rock! Very creative to put that gun in a film, along with a whip, which I actually got to see him use at a horror convention last year.. What a Hoot he is! At least twice in this movie is the coping with an infected relative who is no longer human, but possesses the face and body the loved one once knew. Forced to shoot or become a vampire, the scenes are very well acted and make the viewer relate to that in their own way. Great film by itself, 3rd one sucked and I have yet to see the 2nd, but can’t see it being anywhere near this one’s caliber.

Richie: He's in the bathroom. Why don't I just go in there, shoot him in the back of the head, and we can get the fuck out of here.
Pete Bottoms: Don't do that! Look, you asked me to act natural, I'm acting natural - in fact, under the circumstances, I think I ought get a fuckin' Academy Award for how natural I'm acting.

Slightly cheesy for me in terms of a Rodriguez/Tarantino movie. I can't explain why exactly. Then again, I've always just liked to keep Tarantino behind the camera anyways. I also can't stand Juliette Lewis so that was just kind of a bummer for me. I thought the plot could've been better overall, though, I will say that Salma Hayek was freaking hot in that snake scene!

My thoughts on From Dusk till Dawn

Posted : 15 years, 9 months ago on 9 July 2008 02:10

I had this movie on DVD for ages I just never watched it until a few days ago I never thought how good this movie was going to be but I did enjoy it. Quentin Tarantino plays the best part how friendly he can be then all of a sudden he's crazy it's just a shame he's not in the movie all the way. George Clooney he was decent but Quentin should of been the main character. From the start it just seems like Quentin's usual movies then like half way zombies come in it really kind of make it more interesting and just some parts are too funny.

I don't even think I need to explain what this movie is about it is a popular movie and loads of people have seen it. I thought it was great.
