Description: Celestine, the chambermaid, has a new job in the country, at the Lanlaires. She has decided to use her beauty to seduce a wealthy man. But Mr Lanlaire is not a right choice: all the house is firmly controlled by Mme Lanlaire, helped by the strange valet Joseph. Then she tries the neighbour, ex-officer Mauger. This seems to work. "11.4. 2020 Renoir's vivid and distinctive aesthetics amaze me every time I watch one his films. You can't really compare him to anyone else and that's why he is so special. "The Diary of a Chambermaid" is a classic story told by several different directors. Buñuel's more serious version is masterful and impressive in its own way but Renoir takes a more comedic approach. The film undeniably reminds us some poignant truths regarding upper class lifestyle but not in a preachy way at all. Paulette"
