"I had completely forgotten how great this movie is. By abandoning the traditional pacing of a three act story it becomes dynamite. The first act lasts like 80 minutes, the second act is a hot fifteen consisting of nothing but action setpieces, then the last is like 30, again consisting of little but setpieces. "12/7/17 Brilliant sequel to 2011 hit, with Ceasar now the leader of a colony of apes who have lived in peace until a group of human enter their forest to restart an abandoned dam. With conspiracy and plotting among the ranks, a war is brewing. This is definitely the most intelligent of the blockbusters as well as being gripping and touching. Andy Serkis deserves an award for his portrayal of Caesar."

Fortunately the film is told in a way that doesn't require seeing the first one to follow it. And so I found it to be solidly entertaining but nothing I was overly in love with. It was fairly predictable and didn't deliver much in the way of surprises story-wise, so that held it back for me.
