The first and best of the series

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 19 August 2022 12:17

While decidedly languid and a tad too short, this is the first and best of the tales about the Australian living legend. The scenery and cinematography are very nice, and there are entertaining and somewhat informative parts in the script. The story is engaging too, and has both funny and quite tense bits. The direction is fine, and the acting is good enough. Paul Hogan is a very likable, charismatic and funny hero, and Linda Kozslowski is decent support. As for the sequels, the second was inferior but passable but the third isn't really worth bothering with. This though, while not perfect is the real deal and works as solid entertainment. 8/10 Bethany Cox

An average movie

I remember it very well when this movie was released. Indeed, against all expectations, it turned out to be a huge worldwide box-office success, it was even the 2nd  second-highest grossing film of the year, just behind ‘Top Gun’. Anyway, I wonder if I saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released but, back then, when I was a kid, I thought it was a pretty cool and really funny flick. Eventually, many years later, I saw it again with Nick, my step-son, and, to be honest, the whole thing didn’t grow old very well, I’m afraid. Basically, it is a rather straightforward feature following the basic rules of the fish-out-of-water comedy with some romantic elements added to the mix. At least, Paul Hogan was quite charismatic and there were some nice jokes throughout the damned thing. Eventually, what really bothered me was the fact that 'Crocodile' Dundee was basically some kind of super-hero who could stop animals just by looking at them. I mean, this kind of things were quite awesome to see when I was a kid but, as a grown-up, I thought it was rather corny. Anyway, to conclude, it is basically a typical cheesy 80's comedy but it is still entertaining and it is definitely worth a look.
