An average movie

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 25 October 2016 09:24

When was the last time that Jim Carrey had a hit? I guess it was with ‘Yes Man’ which was released almost a decade ago. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, I had already seen the damned thing but since it was a while back, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, that’s basically a typical comedy on which Jim Carrey has built up his career but I thought it was not bad at all. In fact, to be honest, the concept was actually rather idiotic and, to make things worse, it was really hard to care about the main character. I mean, he had a decent job, a girlfriend who looked like Jennifer Aniston and, yet, he kept complaining all the time. Eventually, what made this movie was worked was Jim Carrey himself. Indeed, with anyone else, it would have been pretty lame but Carrey was just really good here. Seriously, back in those days, the guy was at the top of his game and most of his jokes were just really funny. Eventually, since it was a box-office success, they obviously had to come up with a sequel called ‘Evan Almighty’ but Jim Carrey was smart enough to stay away from the damned thing and it turned out to be a really expensive flop. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, I thought it was a decent comedy and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like Jim Carrey's work.

So stupid that it was so hilarious!!

Bruce Almighty is one of those films that is very clever, very silly and very entertaining. It was a silly story, yes, but I just loved the characters and the story in general. Bruce Almighty is a film that some people would watch in religious studies either at high school, college or university. I watched it about 3 times when I was at high school and I still really like it. This film had a lot of slapstick and very funny jokes especially what Bruce does when he earns God's powers. My favourite scene and funniest scene in the whole film has to be where Evan Baxter is on live TV and Bruce sort of possesses him to do humiliating things like a squeaky voice, speaking gibberish and farting. To me, this is a really good example for studying religions and about God.

Jim Carrey was bloody hilarious as Bruce Nolan. Bruce is just an ordinary guy who works for TV and lives with his girlfriend Grace and pet dog Sam. Things in life go uneasy for Bruce because he gets very stressed out with his job and is "unfairly treated" and "ignored" by God and yells at the sky. Things change for Bruce when he meets God himself. When you see Bruce you will discover that he is a typical Jim Carrey character. Bruce is a rather serious character as well as a hilarious idiot. He is hilarious when he is God and when he isn't God because it's Jim Carrey and he is always funny. Morgan Freeman was good as God. Some people have said to me "Why is a black actor playing a black God?" Basically racism against Morgan. This is the question: "Who knows who or what God is?" We don't know so some people can't really comment about that. Jennifer Aniston was good but didn't quite bring and comedy into the relationship she has with Bruce. Jennifer has always made me laugh in the films she has been in the past such as Along Came Polly but I couldn't feel and comedy or very much emotion coming out of her very much. Steve Carell was really hilarious in that one scene involving the TV.

Tom Shadyac directs this film really well. He made it a lot like a story with some drama but mostly with hilarious moments and rather crude jokes. It was directed like it was very typical of Jim Carrey as I have already said. The script was good for just family fun and entertainment. It was written like it was made for young kids except when Bruce says "f***ers" on live TV.

Bruce Almighty is one of Jim Carrey's top films. I love The Grinch, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events just as much. It isn't one of the top Morgan Freeman or Jennifer Aniston films though. It is one of my favourite films that are just for entertainment but not one of my favourite films of all time.

A good reason why people shouldn't becom

Continuing with my Jim Carrey series after some bad ones, Bruce Almighty is a lot better then the others.

Carrey plays Bruce Nolan, a news reporter for a New York station that fails to earn a anchorman position and flips out and loses his job and blames God for his misfortune. So God calls him and invites Bruce to meet him and give him is powers and find out what it's like to be God. He uses his powers to get his job back and also get the anchorman position, but in the process ignoring peoples prayers and losing his girlfriend.

Acting on Carrey's side is pretty good this time as he was finally funny and enjoyable to watch and the rest of the cast fit their parts really well, with the exception of Jennifer Aniston who could never act.

The writing in the movie is bit witty and doesn't feel like it forcing laughs and Carrey and even Steve Carell have good funny dialog.

In the end this is one of Jim Carrey's better movies that in genuinely funny and while I wouldn't want to watch again anytime soon, I would watch again if forced to.

I dont get it...

I'm not sure why this is such a popular comedy. I normally love Jim Carrey, and love wacked out comedies with crazy plots (such as being God) but I can't seem to remember anything THAT funny in this film. It's been a while, but normally, i remember the really funny films, or at least the best parts, but this film is so... so... i guess 'forgettable'.

I remember the start had a few funny moments, when Carrey was a disgruntled TV reporter, and then the dog having to pee on one tiny piece of grass, but that's about all. And even if I may have enjoyed the film back when i first saw it, if it doesn't leave a lasting memory with me, I can't give it more than a 6 out of 10.

And for the record, NO, Jennifer Aniston can't act. The sooner she retires, the better off the movie industry will be. Re-launch Friends and stick her in that role til she's 50, but please make her stop making movies.
