A good movie

Posted : 8 years, 3 months ago on 20 December 2015 03:06

I have to admit it, I alway had a weak spot for this movie and it must be one of the most popular romantic-comedies out there. To be honest, I'm not sure it is actually one of the best movies in this genre but it is definitely a really solid effort and most of it worked like a charm. First of all, this trio composed by Renรฉe Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth was just pitch-perfect, especially Zellweger. Indeed, even though she was really cute, she still looked like someone who could be a co-worker or someone living next to you. Basically, she looked like a normal person and that was so refreshing and definitely the biggest asset in this movie, this fact that she was so relatable. Of course, the fact that the jokes were often quite hilarious also helped as well. Unfortunately, the whole thing was still too cheesy to become really amazing, at least, for me. Indeed, they made sure that Daniel Cleaver was really bad and Mark Darcy was really great which was rather disappointing. Furthermore, all these typical tricks like having him leave to America but still to come back to her after all (they even used this trick twice!) were just too gimmicky. Still, in spite of its flaws, it is definitely an entertaining feature and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย

I watched the movie at least 6 times and i'm not sick of it it's so funny and so romantic. Renee played Bridget so good i guess that's why she was nominated for an Oscar. Hugh Grant was really funny i laughed so much when Bridget and Daniel were in the bouts. A very funny movie.

Don't see why people love this one at all!

I was going into this film with high expectations because of how good people say it is and how awesome the Bridget Jones character is. However, when I watched it, I was greatly disappointed and found it perhaps one of the soppiest films that I have ever watched! I do seriously not understand why people find this so good and because of this, I find it very overrated. I was really bored almost through the whole film. I enjoyed like the first 15 minutes but after that, I just slowly lost my liking for it.

It tells the story of a young woman called Bridget Jones (Zellweger) in her early 30s, still single and worries about her weight. Her job is at a book publishing company in London where her main focus is fantasizing about her boss Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). When she meets Mark Darcy (Firth) who is the barrister son of her parents' friends and a love triangle starts to begin for a fight for Bridget's heart. To be honest, I really don't see what was so amazing about Renรฉe Zellweger's performance. She had what the character needs like body but think her acting could've been a lot better. Yes, I realise that she was nominated for an Oscar but I don't think she deserved it. Hugh Grant keeps appearing in romantic comedies and constantly playing the same kind of characters and, to be honest, I am getting a little tired of it. I'm not saying he's a bad actor but like Johnny Depp with weird films and weird characters: there's only a matter of time where people get tired of it and it just dies. Colin Firth, however, was good in this film.

Bridget Jones's Diary is one of the rare films that was directed by a woman. Sharon Maguire has only been known for this film but nothing else. The film was based on the book by a close friend of hers and one of the main characters โ€“ Shazzer โ€“ is in fact based on Maguire.

Overall, Bridget Jones's Diary is a very disappointing, boring and soppy film that I think could've been a lot better all around.

This is one of the few movies that I've seen that has transferred over from book to movie well. Great acting by all as well as great music selections.
I just wish the sequel would have turned out as well. :(
