A good movie

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 29 August 2011 08:47

This is the last movie directed by the late Anthony Minghella and since I enjoyed most of his movies, I really wanted to check it out. Honestly, I find it rather difficult to judge this flick. I mean, I did like it but Iโ€™m not sure if it was actually really good. In my opinion, the main issue was that the story didn't work out very well, it was rather convoluted and far-fetched. Still, somehow, there was something spellbinding about the whole thing. To start with, there was an impressive cast (Jude Law, Robin Wright, Juliette Binoche, Vera Farmiga) and the characters were rather intriguing, even though their actions were rather bewildering sometimes. But still, thanks to the good performances and the decent directing, there was an interesting mood so I still enjoyed this movie and I was rather hooked. I donโ€™t know, maybe I was in the right mood and if I re-watch it I would be amazed about how preposterous the whole thing actually is. Anyway, to conclude, even though the whole thing was really deeply flawed, I actually liked this flick and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in Anthony Minghellaโ€™s work.

Breaking and Entering

While watchable, it's definitely not too believable. Entertaining, sure, but only if you ignore some flaws in the mushy and silly story.

worst drama ever

The offices of landscape architect Will Francis (Jude Law) are broken into and much equipment gets stolen, including his precious laptop. Will meets by chance Amira (Juliette Binoche), who turns out to be the mother of Miro, one of the thiefs that break into his office. Soon enough Will and Amira become entangled in a love affair.

A dramatic film with the attitudes of teenagers. A mindless script with idiotic relationships.

I, too, expected much more from this cast, especially Robin Wright Penn who played Will Francis' Swedish girlfriend.

My opinion: a total waste of time.
(I want the 2 hours I spent on this crap back, it's sooo bad!)

Break on through; don't stop to press pl

Anthony Minghella's first original screenplay since 1991's Truly Madly Deeply is a garbled and somewhat lumbering affair between two sets of people from opposite sides of the social divide. His plot feels as forced as a smile on Anne Robinson's face, which in turn makes the performances labored and leaves the whole thing lacking plausibility.

I expected much more from this cast.

London comes out the only winner here -- un-cliched, oozing with grime and always an interesting subject to view. Still, not a good enough reason to watch this film.
