"A classic Ealing comedy with Alec Guinness on fine form as a ex-Navy Captain who buys and takes over the running of a seaside pier just like a ship. The local council have plans to demolish the pier for their own greedy needs so the Captain outwits them at their own game. This movie follows the Ealing staple of the 'little man' up against the powers that be but in this case the opposition is petty and mean-minded. The movie is typical of this by Alec Guinness's sole attempts to fight the decisi"
