A Night at the Roxbury review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 26 October 2011 12:32

I kind of wanted this movie to be one of those which I would never see. I felt like an entire movie based off of an SNL script is a dumb idea. It obviously didn't work for 'Superstar' so why would it work now?

A good friend of mine (I love her to death) wanted her boyfriend (who is one of my roomates) to watch it. So, I just sat and watched it. Good idea? Not really.

This entire movie has ANNOYING characters, and I'm talking every character. There was not a single character that I didn't want to punch in the face.

The dialog was horrible and predictable as well as the story.

I feel bad about this film because the SNL short is quite funny and part of comedy history. This film just massacres it with an unnessesary story.

I gave it 2 stars overall, ONLY because the jokes were well placed. Even though some of the jokes in the movie ruined the original jokes from the SNL skit.

Overall: This movie is so dumb. I feel like I lost some IQ points watching it. It also ruined the original skit for me, I don't think I can laugh at it again. If I had a chance to rewind time, or train my brain to just blank out watching this film, I totally would. As far as my roomate and his girlfriend (I still love them), they enjoyed the hell out of it. Then again my roomate is well known to have a horrid taste in movies (imo). He seems to hate all the movies I love, and love all the movies I hate. Countless arguments have been thrown around the house which I end up just letting go over my head because he is also well known for being a troll. This review is totally dedicated to him.

A bad movie

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this flick but somehow, I thought I should check it out. Eventually, it was pretty bad, as a matter of fact, it was even worse than I thought it would be... I mean, Will Ferrell can be quite funny but he can be also quite obnoxious and in this flick, he just got on my nerves the whole time. The other guy (I don't remember his name and I don't care...) portraying his brother was not better either. I know, the whole thing is really stupid and I'm well aware of the fact that it is supposed to be that way but the flick was just not funny at all and completely tedious to watch. Personally, I always had a hard time to care for comedies dealing with stupid people (I seriously even despise 'Dumd and Dumber') and this movie was probably one of the worst in this genre. Apparently, this flick was based on a very popular SNL skit but like most movies based on SNL, the transition didn't work at all and the end result was just quite worthless and cringe-inducing. As a side note, you get to see a very young Eva Mendes in one of her very first parts but I wouldn't recommend to watch this flick only for this reason since she is there only for a few minutes. Anyway, to conclude, it is a pretty bad flick, it is not worth a look and you should definitely avoid it.

I enjoyed this film. The two main characters remind me of a very good friend of mine. Ever since I known him I was wondering why he was so crazy!

Turns out that his entire personality is a homage to the Butabi Brothers. He is one of the funniest guys I've met and this film was priceless to me of how much it brought back memories.

Underrated by most!
