To say that this was a wonderful story of love would be to understate what love means. A story that lifts you up yet also smashes you down with the sad yet unmistakable fact that "You can't always get what you want" to quote a very prominent rock band. There are several wonderful performances in this film but none more so that Frank Langella (Sam) as the father of Brian Bloom (Anthony Yeltsin) wh... read more

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but I was so intrigued by its story so I really wanted to check it out at some point. Basically, I was around the same age of Brian when I met my wife and she was around the same age as Arielle. On top of that, she was married at the time with someone else, with 2 kids, and I'm French while she is Dutch. And I almost forgot to menti... read more

Description: Outside the Manhattan St. Regis Hotel, aspiring young writer Brian (Anton Yelchin) first meets Arielle (Bérénice Marlohe), the sophisticated wife of a French Diplomat. Though she’s older, married, and the mother of two, Brian can’t help but be drawn to her and the two begin a cinq-a-sept affair. It’s a clash with his traditional values and his parents (Frank Langella and Glenn Close) can barely handle the news, but Brian couldn’t be more smitten. As the two fall deeper in love, Brian begins to wish for more than just the hours of five to seven and soon the two must face the most significant decision of their lives. An ... (more)

A good movie

“To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but I was so intrigued by its story so I really wanted to check it out at some point. Basically, I was around the same age of Brian when I met my wife and she was around the same age as Arielle. On top of that, she was married at the time with someone else, with 2 kids, and I'm French while she is Dutch. And I almost forgot to mention that she did some modelling at some point. So, obviously, many things that happened in this movie felt really familiar and it did touch me enormously because it basically mirrored a huge chunk if my life. A part from that it was a decent romantic-comedy but, to be honest, I thought there was actually not much chemistry between Anton Yelchin and Bérénice Marlohe. I mean, it was completely unde” read more

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- August 2016 (28 movies items)

" Showtime- 1hr. 37min. First Viewing 5 to 7 explores some interesting themes in the romantic drama canon, and quite well made. It is, also, quite up it's own ass. Every insight is treated as if it were some grand statement on love and relationships. Despite some strong performances from Marlohe and Yelchin, as well as the supporting cast, their characters are more ciphers for these grand proclamations, instead of well rounded characters. When it works though, it works; the melancholy and bitters"
