Far from perfect, but better than the first film

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 24 March 2022 04:27

When it comes to the first Fantastic Four, I didn't hate it or anything but in more ways than one it could have been better as well. This sequel is an improvement in quite a few ways, but hampered by some of the flaws of the first film.

The story had a great idea, had great potential and started off very well indeed. But in the middle I think it slackened in the pace and the story became less interesting and rather repetitive as a result. Also the film does have some cheesy and cringe-worthy dialogue especially in the one-liners, Reed and Doom unfortunately getting the worst of the lot.

However, as I've said, there are several improvements. First and foremost, Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer alone is a more interesting character than any of the characters in the first movie, with a great design and performed just as impressively by the talented Laurence Fishburne. The special effects are incredible and greater in scope than the first, and the scenery is beautifully realised and perfectly captured by the crisp photography. Doom while having some bad lines is more intriguing here and developed and incorporated much better, and Julian McMahon's performance is deliciously evil and camp. Tim Story's direction is much more assured this time round too, John Ottman's score fits better here as well and the overall is shorter and better rounded off with a more exciting and less long-winded climax. The acting in general has also improved, while they are still the weak links in the cast Ioan Gruffodd and Jessica Alba's chemistry feels more natural and both feel more relaxed in their roles too. Michael Chiklis acquits himself even better, and Chris Evans provides the film's most amusing moments.

All in all, imperfect but improved sequel. 7/10 Bethany Cox

An average movie

Even though the first movie was a critical failure, since it was a success at the box-office, it was not really surprising that they decided to make a sequel. And, at first, it was actually promising when they decided to include one of the most enigmatic and awesome super-hero out there, the legendary Silver Surfer. Unfortunately, they didn't really take advantage of this opportunity. Once again, the story was rather weak and predictable with some boring action scenes throughout the whole thing. I mean, it wasn't worse than the first movie but it wasn't better either. It is too bad because with the Silver Surfer you had the potential to create a thoughtful but still entertaining super-hero flick. But, as usual, they were not willing to take any risks and delivered yet another lackluster sequel. To conclude, once again, it was not really bad but it was still pretty average and not really worth look whatsoever, even if you love this genre.

Fantastic :D

Alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
what can i say? it was Fantastic!

This movie satisfied all my wants from a movie. Action, romance and comedy. Believe it or not, there were some hillarious parts in this!
Just to mention one: "You wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of the night and find out your girlfriend died from a rock slide"
Buuut to be honest they could have made the plot better. Yeah yeah yeah, there has to be some world threating disaster where the fantastic four have to save the world once again and work together. But honestly the problem could have been better. Although i loved the silver surfer! :D

To me i have a mixture of feelings towards the acting in this movie.
Chris Evans was great! good looking, immature brother to jessica alba's character!
Jessica, on the other hand, was a little disappiontment. She just didnt seem right for the part. I dunno. Maybe its just me, yess shes not that bad looking but seriously on the acting side of things itn was a disappointment.
Ioan Gruffudd once again fantastic job! amazing actor! although i don't really know how his looks got Jessica Alba in the movie ... hmm ... lol
Just want to mention someone else not in the fantastic four, Julian McMahon, as Von Doom. He's great! I dont think i've seen him in any other movies but yeeeew great acting from him!

I still don't know which of the two is my favourite, from the top of my head i would say the first, but then again i havnt seen that in ages!
