Michael Winterbottom is a very interesting director and I try to catch his flicks everytime I got the chance. However, like some other directors like Soderbergh for example, Winterbottom is victim of his own ambition. Since his directing début in 1995, he has already directed 20 movies! A consequence of this is that some of his movies while still interesting feel half-baked and/or rushed in produ... read more

Description: Manchester 1976: Cambridge educated Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan), Granada TV presenter, is at a Sex Pistols gig. Totally inspired by this pivotal moment in music history, he and his friends set up a record label, Factory Records, signing first Joy Division (who go on to become New Order) then James and the Happy Mondays, who all become seminal artists of their time. What ensues is a tale of music, sex, drugs, larger-than-life characters, and the birth of one of the most famous dance clubs in the world, The Hacienda - a mecca for clubbers as famous as the likes of Studio 54. Graphically depicting the music and dance heritage of Man ... (more)

" First Viewing Viewing Date: July 9th Via: Google Play Plot: In 1976, Tony Wilson sets up Factory Records and brings Manchester's music to the world. Rating: 6.7/10 Why Did I Watch It? I heard a radio spot for this on an old Ricky Gervais XFM show recording, and it immediately intrigued me. I sought it out and made it a priority."

" Director: Michael Winterbottom His 10th movie My 8th movie watched from the director This movie was told with the perfect editing and visual aesthetic for the subject matter. Coogan is great, and it's filled with many interesting characters, even if we seem to not see them enough. I love the history of it all, through one man's lens. "First viewing - Feb. 15th One of my best friends encouraged me to finally give 24 Hour Party People a look, and overall I'm glad he did. At first though I was concerned because the opening credits are an eyesore (and the style is unfortunately used again for the closing credits). But then the story kicked in properly and for the first half of the film I felt like it was catering to my tastes heavily. There's the Sex Pistols and their influence on events that follow, the rise and fall of Joy Div"

35 From 2: My Favorite Films From 2002 (35 movies items)

"The story of the rise and fall of the Manchester Music scene of the 80's, including the famous Hacienda dance club and the small indie record label Factory Records (which supposedly was named after all the "factory closing" signs that hung around all of Manchester at the time...and probably served as an ironic sign of things to come for the record label). I think that one of the main reasons I have such a soft spot in my heart for 24 Hour Party People may be because this is the film that introd"
